Ultrasound-Homogenization-Assisted Extraction of Polyphenols from Coconut Mesocarp: Optimization Study

Coconut pericarp ( shell fiber mesocarp ) and endocarp )), the main by-product of coconut production, is often discarded causing serious environmental pollution. To make better use pericarp, extraction process polyphenols from (CM) carefully studied by screening seven solvent systems, optimizing assisted ultrasonic response surface methodology, comparing four Ultrasound, Homogenization, Ultrasound + Homogenization Ultrasound. The results showed that using 60% acetone as solvent, solid-liquid ratio 1:5 g mL-1, temperature 80 min, power 225 W, then homogenizing at 10000 rpm for 10 total flavonoid content CM reached maximum 551.99 ± 12.69 mg Rutin g-1 dry weight (dw), while phenolic 289.48 4.41 GAE dw at 5 which may be related to oxidative degradation caused increase polyphenol oxidase with extension homogenization time. This study provides a technical guarantee further utilization substances in CM.
